A Note...

... to our loyal readers.

Guy is in Sweden, currently, and Girl is in Canada. No, we did not split up, as one of you has commented, but we do come from different sides of the world and this tends to happen when you are stupid enough to get involved in a long distance relationship.

So! To those of you who are expecting this website to be kept up to date on a regular basis (even after the fact that this has never happened so far), you will be disappointed.

But! We will try to watch the same movies, and we will try to write reviews about them at some point, then try to post those reviews on a semi-timely basis... maybe.

Some of you may call this a stilted promise, but we just call it reality. Unlike Lindsay Lohan, we have our feet planted firmly in it.

MICMACS

Guy’s frenchy review...

Jeunet is probably most famous for his movie “Amelie”. I’ve followed him for a long time and one of my favorites is “The City of Lost Children”. He also took at a stab at the “Alien” franchise and directed the fourth in the series.

“Micmacs” is as playful as “Amelie” and as weird as “The City of Lost Children”. This all sounds good, right? The thing is that I felt that something was missing. I don’t think it was the actors cause they where great. I think it was the mood.

The movie is about a videostore clerk that witnesses a shout-out in the street outside of his store. He walks outside and gets a stray bullet in his head. After walking up the clerk starts acting strange and soon looses his job. He sleep on the street for a while until an old man who invites him to his home. Well, the man lives in a hollowed out garbage pile with a bunch of other weird people.

The Clerk decides to go up against the people who made the bullet and take them down with his new friends. A bunch of fun and weird shenanigans ensue and the weapon developers get into a bunch of trouble.

Guy’s Rating: Good, but not as good as I hoped.

Girl’s I got distracted... several times...

... and I don’t think it mattered. I still understood what was going on - good sign? Probably not. This movie was so jam-packed full of weird visuals, some amazing and others pointless, that the story was simple to follow. Maybe a bit too simple, since I didn’t care about the characters enough to stick around for the entire length of the film.

Visually stunning, but lack of a thick, juicy story made for an empty, bored filling at the end of the film.

Girl’s Rating: Not sure what happened, but I wouldn’t recommend watching this film if you had your pick of this director’s whole selection.
