That first statement might get me in a bunch of trouble and I’ll tell you why. Not long ago an actor named Mel Gibson got stopped for driving under the influence. When the cop in question was talking to the actor, the actor decided to make some very anti-Semitic remarks. It didn’t help that he recently had directed the movie “Passion of the Christ”. Now he’s the Hitler of Hollywood.
I however remember him as Mad Max or Martin Riggs. These where the movie I grew up with and this is what made me like Mel Gibson. After a bunch of successful movie he decided on doing some directing. “Braveheart” was one of those projects and probably the best Mel Gibson movie to date (Not “Signs” and if you think so you should be lobotomized),
“Braveheart” is visually stunning and the acting is brilliant. I’ll just tell you about my favorite scene. You know right after they kill Mel’s wife in the beginning of the movie. Yeah, he shows up at the village and takes care of the soldiers one by one. The moment where Mel looks down on the first soldier with does dead eyes. That’s the moment that gives me goosebumps. That look could kill, man!
Guy’s Rating: If you haven’t seen it. You haven’t lived.
Girl’s respect for Mel...
I’m backing my man with this one. Personal asshole tendencies aside, Mel created a great character in William Wallace. No one could have made those “You are gonna die” stares better. Not even Harrison Ford.
Looking at the fight sequences now, you could notice the lack of attention to detail and movement in the extras recent CGI and blurry/bouncy film making has eliminated - but you won’t. The story, characters, Mel, the crazy Irish guy with the insane laugh - it’s too captivating to pick apart.
Another thing - more heroes should die in movies. People are always looking for a franchise, so they won’t kill off the big action heros. They should. It makes for such a memorable ending.
Girl’s Rating: Epic!
