A Note...

... to our loyal readers.

Guy is in Sweden, currently, and Girl is in Canada. No, we did not split up, as one of you has commented, but we do come from different sides of the world and this tends to happen when you are stupid enough to get involved in a long distance relationship.

So! To those of you who are expecting this website to be kept up to date on a regular basis (even after the fact that this has never happened so far), you will be disappointed.

But! We will try to watch the same movies, and we will try to write reviews about them at some point, then try to post those reviews on a semi-timely basis... maybe.

Some of you may call this a stilted promise, but we just call it reality. Unlike Lindsay Lohan, we have our feet planted firmly in it.

A SERIOUS MAN

Guy's thought on this weird funniness...

Nobody can take away the fact that the Coen's are two very talented filmmakers, both together and away from each other but more so when they team up. It seems like they never run out of compelling ideas either. If you look at the list of movies they have made you'll soon find out that almost all of them are A+ movies. This time they've made their jewiest movie yet and they probably did it only for themselves, they can certainly afford it.

"A Serious Man" is funny and will have you thinking about the symbolism in their shoots and scenes for hours, day and weeks after you've seen this movie. I've haven't gotten it out of my head yet, but I've realized that I will have to go back to this film later in my years. Don't get me wrong, this movie has something for all ages as you watch it but to get a different point of view you should wait and go back to it later.

Almost every actor in the movie are "no-name" working actors which adds a lot of sincerity to it. Michael Stuhlbarg who plays the extremely unfortunate Larry Gopnik is fantastic, and it doesn't hurt that everybody that supports him are great as well.

There are a lot of questions that you'll ask of the movie and the filmmakers, if you had the chance, when this movie is over. Just let it bake for awhile and you'll get something good out of it. Believe in the Coen's.

Guy's Rating: And as a believer in the Coen's I urge you to watch this and any other film that will emerge from their minds in the future.

Girl's thoughts...

I'm an on and off again Coen fan. Mostly I'll just judge their movies one at a time. This movie was hard to judge.

It was funny, smart, a good and compelling story. It looked amazing. The characters were amazing. But! But something just wasn't there for me. I enjoyed the movie, very much so actually, but the ending... The Coens can be so frustrating! I'm just not sure what I got out of it.

Girl's rating: Bottom line is that the Coens know what they are doing, but some of us just don't follow what that is exactly. Still, watch the movie. It definitely entertains.
