A Note...

... to our loyal readers.

Guy is in Sweden, currently, and Girl is in Canada. No, we did not split up, as one of you has commented, but we do come from different sides of the world and this tends to happen when you are stupid enough to get involved in a long distance relationship.

So! To those of you who are expecting this website to be kept up to date on a regular basis (even after the fact that this has never happened so far), you will be disappointed.

But! We will try to watch the same movies, and we will try to write reviews about them at some point, then try to post those reviews on a semi-timely basis... maybe.

Some of you may call this a stilted promise, but we just call it reality. Unlike Lindsay Lohan, we have our feet planted firmly in it.

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG

Girl's bane...

Oh, Disney. My Achilles' heel! I don't know what's wrong with me. Too many cartoons when I was younger, I guess, but I never cry during a movie... except when it's a cartoon. Maybe I can relate to pen on paper more than faces on a screen? Who knows, but what I do know, is that I had tears in my eyes on half a dozen occasions during this stupid, stupid Disney movie.

There were stereotypical characters. There were talking animals. There were poorly written, horrifyingly catchy songs. And, upon further examination, I'm sure I could find dreadfully hidden sexual innuendos.

All in all, I doubt this could ever be called a "classic", or even a throw-back to the classics. It didn't have the charm of Aladdin, the music of The Little Mermaid, the characters of The Lion King. No one was really a princess any way! What's with that? They need to unfreeze Disney's head ASAP.

Girl's Rating: False advertising: No princesses and not disney-material.

Guy's view...

I'm not gonna be macho or anything and say "cartoons are for children". I watch a lot of cartoon, especially Japanese anime. Therefore you have to give Disney their props, they where in the forefront for this medium and keep delivering "classics" up 'til today.

So what about "The Princess and the Frog"? Well, it was a nice little spin to the classic fairy tale. Instead of turning a green frog into a white prince, we now have a black prince turning into a green frog turning a black waitress into a frog as well. This all sounds very 2010 but all the black characters were very stereotypical. I guess with Oprah as one of the voices you'll keep people like Reverend Sharpton away.

I personally liked the movie and smiled on several occasions. There's just something about Disney that brings the child in you alive. People accidentally hitting each other over the head with clubs is still funny. Just watch the "Three Stooges", it still works... and so does Disney.

Guy's Rating: Don't grow up, watch Disney.
