I don't think I liked this movie. Although the action sequences were both brutal and interesting (a sword was actually difficult to get out of a body, once stabbed through it, in this movie), I didn't really like any of the characters. When doing a fantasy movie like this, the characters are all that matters as we're beginning to see these carbon copies everywhere.
Solomon Kane was too pious by half for the majority of the movie, save the first five minutes. When he says "I am the only devil here" right after shooting some would-be deserter in the back, you are interested... But then he goes to the monks to repent and follows some humble family on the road learning the honest way of the world... Agh. Sound familiar? Yes. And true to the typical, that family gets slaughtered because Solomon wouldn't sacrifice his pious soul for them. Good job, hero. When creators do that with a story, I can't help but ask why... It's fine to create a character that angers you, but when they are just stupidly frustrating, there is no redemption from that. Get me angry, then get yourself killed, fine. Get me frustrated, I just don't care about you anymore.
The damsel in distress was annoying. Atypical goody-two-shoes peasant child who "sees the good in everyone". Original.
Girl's Rating: Not worth it the money, the download, the anything... And I'll be surprised if this franchise takes off. And disappointed.

Guy's guts and glory...
Girl pretty much told you what the movie was about and how much she disliked it. I have to say that I wasn't a big fan of this movie either. In many regards this movie looks and feels like a Uwe Boll movie. Yes, a Uwe Boll movie. When I say that it's because this movie is just violence and no story. A "wizard" shows up and turns people into "zombies" which Kane have to slaughter. Boooooring.
Guy's Rating: Something for the Uwe Boll fans, no one else.
